
Bagmati Province Gears Up for First-Ever Sports Awards to Honor Athletes and Coaches
Hetauda, Makwanpur β The Bagmati Province Government is set to host its first-ever Province Sports Awards, with preparations now complete. Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the award ceremony will take place this Sunday at Huprachaur, Hetaudaβ4.
In a press briefing held on Thursday, Minister of Youth and Sports Minakrisna Maharjan stated that the event aims to honor both past and present athletes, coaches, and sports journalists of the province. The initiative is designed to encourage athletes, recognize their achievements, and discourage the migration of talent abroad.
According to Acting Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Suryabahadur Dahal, awards will be presented in 8 different categories, with 12 recipients selected. Categories include Best Male/Female Athlete of the Year, Youth Athlete, Coach of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Pride of Bagmati Sports, Popular Athlete, and Outstanding Sports Journalist.
The Lifetime Achievement, Best Athlete, Coach, and Pride of Bagmati Awards will carry a cash prize of NPR 100,000, while other categories will receive NPR 50,000 each.
A three-member technical subcommittee led by Deepak Shrestha was formed to recommend suitable candidates based on contributions to sports, recent success, social impact, and inspirational value for the younger generation.
The grand ceremony will be held in the presence of Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama as the chief guest. The ministry also announced that the Youth Summit will be organized a few weeks after the awards event.
